Can we set our move date as soon as the gift clears?

THE DIRECT ANSWER

A cleared gift is not the same as completion of the immigration process or permission to begin US employment. Confirm the actual decision, documents and admission or status steps required for the applicants. No payment event guarantees that vetting, visa availability or other requirements are resolved.

Coordinate travel with the completed process

Identify what remains for the principal and each derivative, including the applicable entry sequence. If funds or instructions are delayed, address the actual deadline through the responsible process; an enquiry does not automatically extend it. Avoid non-refundable relocation commitments based only on a payment confirmation.

First review turns a hoped-for move into a list of outstanding immigration decisions, documents, travel steps, and employer arrangements. The record that resolves timing is the actual notice or completed status process, not a bank confirmation. Sequence non-refundable housing and employment commitments after the relevant permission exists.

The common error is assuming a cleared payment settles screening, classification, or admission. Hypothetical example: A Canadian maker of bespoke fountain pens receives confirmation that a payment was credited and plans to open a U.S. studio the next week.

The household should wait for the applicable immigration process and lawful work basis before starting the studio's operations.
